How much influence did your African upbringing have on your first album, certainly the Zambezi track has a museve feel?

I tried to be very careful with that. I’m very conscious of my African roots, I want people in Zimbabwe to be proud of it. I hope what I am doing can be a constant reminder to people in the outside world that Africa is not a place with evil people and stories. At the same time, I don’t want to be a gimmick by exploiting where I’m from. You correctly identified the African story in Zambezi. I wanted to tell a story, a story my mum told me, about fighting for freedom and being in love at the same time.
