What is Actualidades?
Actualidades is an online magazine for intermediate Spanish students. The word “actualidades” means “things of the here and now” or “recent things.” Thus, this feature of the website highlights a recent event, such as a new movie, song or interesting news item. Then, I provide information and my opinion on the subject and invite students to do the same. Also included is a list of key vocabulary related to the topic. If you hover over the bolded words, you can get extra help.
Reading and commenting on the Actualidades articles is a fun way to keep your Spanish up-to-date, or “actual” like we would say in Spanish.
Here’s a summary of the new feature:
- Cool vid/poster/song
- A short article related to the above item (in Spanish, of course)
- Key words/expressions bolded in the article (hover over them to get extra help)
- Personal questions at end of article
- Comprehension questions and ideas for more research (labeled “Preguntas de comprensión e investigación”)
- Your thoughts on it in the comments (if you need help commenting, read this)
Actualidades is published online daily 7 days a week. Saturdays are generally Art days. Sundays are generally Movie Poster days.

I am presently doing my student teaching to become a Spanish teacher, and your site certainly has inspired me with some ideas for my classroom. However, I am having trouble finding “Actualidades” on the internet so that I could subscribe to it for my students. Could you direct me to where I could do so?
