Here’s another request filled! Yay. I feel like a Waffle House jukebox.

I wonder what Bain is up to now. I haven’t seen him in awhile. He’s probably still touring, but we just haven’t been to a show. How many CDs does he have now? And what reader can get me a copy? hehe.

Funny story about Bain. One time Betsy and I were sitting on a bench in Athens. We didn’t know who Bain Mattox was at the time; basically no one did. We were talking about Jay Clifford’s openers. We said, “Even though we don’t know who he is, he’s probably good if Jay picked him.” Then the guy next to us got up, smiled at us and walked away. Later on that evening we went to the Jay show and that guy (Bain) opened.

He was, in fact, good. It was a solo show and he completed rocked that accordian like nobody’s business. Amanda Kapazous was there, I think. We found out they were engaged that night. We were like, “Woa!” Then a guy came out and played the saw. Yes, we saw the saw (haha). Bain was on guitar and a another guy was vibrating (like sine waves or something) a long saw. It was awesome.

E requested some Ben Folds here. Here you go! If you don’t mind a couple of hesitations throughout…not bad for not having the sheet music!

I think it only appropriate that I cover this particular song today. The song describes the last day of work of a man named “Mr. Jones.” I’ve packed up things in boxes today that remind me that life has been good. I’ve projected slides onto a white canvas.

In contrast, however, the song sings of the futility of it all. I didn’t feel like that today; I felt good. The hugs and sincere good-byes of my kids (and even one “mixtape to remember me by”!) made me feel that way. But, I will admit that as happy as I am that a wonderful semester has come to a satisfying close, I always get a little sad when the school year ends. I guess that’s a good thing…

But, I can’t end it on a sad note (BAM! as in piano. haha), so I’ll end it with this “SUMMER!!!”

I was thinking the other day about the attention John Mayer has been receiving for his high-profile girlfriends. Everyone raves on and on about Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Aniston. Sure, they’re attractive, I guess. But, I could never see myself dating them (in the fictional world of celebrity, of course) or putting them on the infamous “list.”

On the other hand, I could see myself dating her or, to a lesser extent, her, Ryan Adam’s ex and current, respectively. Ok, so I admit I’ve always had a weird crush on Parker Posey. I’ve never really felt one way or the other about Ms. Moore, but it became glaringly obvious to me when I saw this pic that I prefer the Ryan’s new gal to John’s. Maybe I just prefer brunettes over blonds, the sultry over the bubbly, the indie over the blockbuster. Betsy is perfect.

Enjoy this exhausted Covertown and read more about Ryan and Mandy here.

RenFest 08!

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

RenFest08 clipsRenaissance Festival was a lot of fun! I actually got some nice video clips this time. I was surprised with them, mainly because I haven’t really had a good run with cameras and RenFest.

Here are some of the things that we did this year:

  • Watched the joust (Bets had never seen it)
  • Ate some deep-fried pickles (like we did back in 2005)
  • Went to the royal court and watched them dance
  • Listened to a new 4-piece band (guitar, uprigth bass, violin, drum)
  • Watched a funny juggling/trick act
  • Watched a blacksmith demonstration
  • Saw a yak
  • Watched people throw tomatoes at the insulter
  • Ran into a few of my students!

We’ve been to the RenFest many times, but we did a lot of new things this year. We were tired out by the end (not to mention a bit sunburnt), but it was fun!

Don’t forget to check out the picture gallery if you haven’t yet.

A couple people said that I need to rock harder. I bashed away on the acoustic for this one. Not exactly rock, but maybe acoustic rock or something. I hope you enjoy this rollicking jocundity!
