While walking to the mailbox
Sunday, November 26th, 2006While walking back from the mailbox at 2pm today, one of our neighbors stopped us. I noticed him when he got out of his car with his wife. He had some sort of instrument in a bag, but I noticed that it didn’t have a neck. He said that he just got the best deal in the world. He had just bought a broken cello at a yard sale for $1. I said, “Cool! You could get somebody to fix that and sell it for a lot more probably.” He said, “I know it’s broken, but it’s a good deal.” Then he added, “I don’t know. I’m a little drunk, though. Maybe it won’t seem so good later.”
I said, “I mean, you can’t even buy gum for one dollar.”
He said, “I know. I just bought a bloody mary for nine!”
I responded, “You could have bought a whole broken orchestra for that!”

Our car broke down again. Oh well. It kinda happened in a “best-of” the worst type situations. It wasn’t good, but I suppose it could have been more inconvenient. It just so happened that I was off the rest of the week for November break, so I didn’t have to freak out about how to get to work. So that’s a plus. Betsy was great in handling it. That was another sure plus. Now we just have to figure out what to do with the busted car, and also whether or not to get another or fix this one (or some 3rd option).
