Summer Assistantship

Tuesday, May 31st, 2005

Today I accepted a lab assistantship at GSU. I start in just a few short weeks (Jun 13)! I’ll have a full load of classes plus the lab job, so it’ll basically be like a full-time job. It’ll be a good jump-start for me. By the time Fall starts, I’ll already probably be familiar with campus and the department.

GA Renaissance Festival – fun!!!

Monday, May 30th, 2005

Our first date (like Corn Flakes, tried again for the first time) was a marvelous success! The GA renaissance festival was SO much fun. I forgot the digital camera at home, so I bought a disposable one there, pics will be up after I develop them.

It was mucky and rainy, but so much fun. To start with, right when we got there, we slid down the “wet and wild water slide.” It wasn’t a water slide, but because it was rainy, there was this really loud funny guy annoucing it as such. There was so much to do that we actually could go another weekend and still have lots to do.

The shows were hilarious! The first show “Slash and Hack” was great. Two guys with whips and swords combined with witty banter. The best show was “Washing Wenches!” The girls were so funny that it’s hard to even recount. I suppose in short it was 2 funny-looking sex-charged wenches at a big washing trough engaging the audience in all kinds of shenanigans.

Most of the food was really good (we only had one bad experience), especially the deep-fried pickles, deep-fried candy bar, and herbal tea.

Excellent! Now for a leisurely evening with Red Dwarf episodes.

New Music

Saturday, May 28th, 2005

Alright, I started something new for this site. I probably won’t update it often, but hey, might as well. In the sidebar you will see, New Music in Rotation. I will post with what I think of each album. It is meant to be more of a ‘what I’m listening to’ than comprehensive reviews or thoughts on the album.

So, for the first edition:
Ryan Adams – Cold Roses
Despite what people say about him, I like Ryan Adams. His music provides “mood music” for me. His new album Cold Roses seems less experimental than his previous works, but I like it anyway. I haven’t found much that I don’t like by him.

Michael Bublé – It’s Time
Incredible old jazz record. Classy. I’d love to listen to it with my mom as I’m sure she’d love it. He outshines Nelly Furtado on their duo, but it works. I much prefer the duo with Chris Botti.

Common – Be
Reminds me of old Roots stuff that I love. Jazzy, laid back. A great listen for just chillin’. I got this album because of the colab with John Mayer, and it did not disappoint. John Mayer is cool, jazzy, and he fits right into the sound. Kayne West makes various nice guest spots.

Emiliana Torrini – Fisherman’s Woman
Oh so sweet. Nice enough to put on and forget, but beautiful enough to remember.

Architecture in Helsinki – In Case We Die
A strange listen, but catchy. I’ve got to listen to it again, and I suppose that’s why it’s here. Unique, but doesn’t seem to be trying too hard.

new pics up

Saturday, May 28th, 2005

I put a lot of new pics up.

We pulled an “old school” and stayed up nearly all night talking on Thursday. We woke up at about 2pm on Friday and then went and found 3 letterboxes. That’s a lot! We were dead tired when we got home. I like this new hobby, though.
